Well, I did it. I joined a gym.
I must admit that I'm not that concerned about the weight issue as I am with the jiggle issue. When you join a gym you get an assessment. During this, they ask you what your goals are. Well, after being measured and weighed they calculated my BMI (fat measurement) and my cardiovascular strengths. Shall we say I was deeply humbled. It's not the measurements that are freaking me out, it was how out of shape I am! (Sadly, I kind of already knew this but now I have cold hard facts to prove it.) So I told the nice guy at the gym that my goal was to get in shape and to get the jiggly bits to stop jiggling and the squishy bits to not be so squishy. He was quite amused by this. He suggested that I do some cardio work for 30 mins at least 3-4 times a week. So Jermaine set up the elliptical for 20 mins to get me started. I managed alright but I was counting down the final 3 minutes. I don't know how those people run those marathons. My client C recently ran a 20 km marathon or something crazy like that. I'm not quite sure how many kilometres it was but I know he trained for a long time and was very proud of his accomplishment.
Props to you C! I don't think I'll be running a marathon with you anytime soon.
I'm going to try to hit the gym 3 times a week. Try is the operative word here. Wish me luck as next week weight training will commence and I'm actually excited about it!

Too funny, well you're the best looking out of shape girl I know Sharon!! I found the elliptical trainer to be kinda deceiving. When I was at a gym, I trained hard for 6 month and was smoking on the trainer, but when I got back on the ice to play hockey, I noticed I wasn't as fit as I was when I jogged. Different strokes for different folks, it will probably work better for you, as you weight about as much as my leg. But I still think the pounding from running makes you fitter. NO pain No gain as they say. I think it's true. Warning, your first two weeks will be brutal, once you get over that hump, you'll be fine.
Awwwwww, that's so nice of you to say!! Thanks Sharon...it was quite the great feeling to finish that race! If you ever get the chance to go watch a marathon finish, you should! There are lots of people you'd never imagine crossing the finish line...young, old, big and small. Very inspiring!
Hey Rance,
I also think the treadmill is better but you can't go in reverse on it. I think I'm going to mix it up a bit.
Do you you mean the first hump is more than a week?! I'm feelin' the burn.
Thanks for the support.
Client C,
Yes, I should go check out a marathon finish . That's something I've never done before.
