Fun in the Sun

I've been spending a lot of time outside in the sun. Daily I diligently to use sunscreen on every area of skin exposed. Sadly, I wasn't taking extra precaution with my hair. It can heat up quite a bit under the big luminous orb. (Not that I'm complaining.) Sometimes it feels like I could fry an egg on the top of my head. So I usually don a hat. A cute one at that. I have all sorts that go with all sorts of different looks. Unfortunately they don't cover all of my hair and unfortunately I don't always wear one. The end lengths are left out to the mean heat and harmful UV rays leaving them vulnerable. Fortunately the shampoo and conditioner I am currently using offer UV protection. But when you are out for long periods it's not enough. They need extra protection. As a result, my ends are feeling neglected. I will do some serious treatments to rectify this issue. It's a good thing I've been going easy on the heated hair appliances.

Lesson learned. If you've been spending a little more time that usual outside, use extra protection on your skin and hair. There are many hair care products out there that offer sunscreen protection as well as repair. Most major hair care lines have one. Ask your stylist to consult with you if you are feeling overwhelmed by this purchase. I think it's a great investment if you spend a lot of time outdoors. Especially if you chemically treat your hair.

Here are two that are tried, tested and true.

Flourishing

Spring is definitely here. My garden is thriving!

The weather man is advising us not to do our planting this Victoria Day in Toronto. The temperature is going to drop below dew point and that would be disastrous for new plants and flowers.

Whatever you end up doing for this upcoming long weekend enjoy it and don't forget to use sunscreen. It is after all our best anti-age product for our skin!

Singin' in the rain...

What is up with this weather? Wet and cold. Yuck. This is the kinda rain where you're not quite sure whether or not to use your umbrella. While I was on the way to the lab at the request of my doctor, I decided to use my birdcage umbrella to keep the drizzle off my face. I love this umbrella because the wind can't get under it to flip it inside out! Yes I've been there. Crossing the intersection in pouring rain when the wind catches the umbrella and not only flips it inside out but drags me along with it as I hang on for dear life! It takes me in a diagonal spin across the street and into a big nasty puddle. I think that's why I have invested in some key pieces to keep me high and dry. O.K. maybe not high. Just dry.

After the lab, I was off to buy some suncreen. My favourite suncreen is Vichy Capital Soleil 30 ultra-fluid. This fast drying spf 30 protects against both UVA and UVB rays. What I love about it is that it doesn't leave my skin with that white film and isn't greasy. It's worth every penny. I also use Ombrelle sport spray. But not for my face. Ombrelle is also an excellent product that provides premium protection. All this talk about sunscreen is making me wonder when am I going to see some sun for me to use it.
